Backpack Trips for the East Side of the Sierra Nevada

Here are a few select trips entering the Sierra Nevada from the East Side. For me personally there’s no better way to start a backpack than heading up or down highway 395 and visiting Bishop and Lone Pine. The 395 corridor is where I began my own experience with the Sierra so it holds a special place in my heart. My own first entry was via horseback to Lake Ediza around 1966. That was quickly followed by my first backpack which took me over Kearsarge and Glen Passes to Rae Lakes. I think the East Side of the Sierra is a magical place.
